LAUREN SAMUELS TO MAKE HER WEST END DEBUT AS ‘SANDY’!
Grease celebrates its third electrifying Birthday this July with a new leading lady…
The producers are delighted to announce that Lauren Samuels will join the cast of the smash-hit musical on 26 July 2010. Making her West End debut, Lauren will star in the iconic role of ‘Sandy’ until 22 January 2011 at London’s Piccadilly Theatre. Noel Sullivan will continue as ‘Danny’ and Siubhan Harrison will also join the show in the role of ‘Rizzo’.
Set to be one of the West End’s new rising stars, Lauren Samuels was a finalist on the popular BBC1 show Over the Rainbow. During the series, in which Andrew Lloyd Webber searched for a leading lady to star in The Wizard of Oz, Lauren consistently wowed the judges with her stunning performances week after week. Watched by millions, she beat thousands of ‘Dorothy’ hopefuls to become one of the final three and after finishing the programme has gone on to pursue her lifelong ambition to perform in the West End. Having impressed the show’s producers and creative team, Lauren will leave audiences hopelessly devoted to Grease when she makes her West End debut this summer.
Looking forward to her role, Lauren says: ‘I am so unbelievably excited to be joining the wonderful cast of Grease. It was one of the first musicals I was taken to see as a young child and so to be given the opportunity to recreate the iconic role of ‘Sandy’ and to make my West End debut in the show, is a dream come true. I feel like the luckiest girl in the world!’

Grease is the Word with Lauren Samuels as Sandy
1According to sources close to Lauren Samuels’ Dad, the part of Sandy in Grease will be given over Lauren Samuels herself and rehearsals start in just over a week’s time!
Grease is one of the London West End shows that Lauren has indicated she’s interested in along with We Will Rock You and Les Mis, and if the rumours turn out to be true then this is a well deserved high profile West End leading lady role for Lauren, coming soon after taking the third place out of thousands in the BBC Over The Rainbow TV show.
Interestingly, at a time when some theatres are finding it hard to sell all seats and some shows have announced early closures, Grease has recently extended booking right out until September 2011.
The part of Sandy is currently taken by Siobhan Dillon who has also been in Cabaret (UK tour), played another role in this same of production of Grease at the Piccadilly Theatre and just like Lauren Samuels, Siobhan was a second runner up in a BBC reality casting programme, in this case “How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?” which found a Maria for The Sound Of Music.
Going back a few weeks Lauren said
I’ve got meetings later in the week. I’d love to audition for a part in another West End show … I’m looking to the future now, and hopefully it’ll be in the West End
Andrew Lloyd Webber recently said in an interview on BBC Radio 2 that he was impressed with Lauren Samuels’ attitude during the live shows of Over the Rainbow, calling her a true professional. Lauren also said she wouldn’t mind appearing in Les Miserables, as she thinks On My Own is one of the best show tunes ever,
